Callihan Named Assistant Volleyball Coach at Georgia

May 18, 2007 - BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University head volleyball coach Chad Callihan has be named assistant volleyball coach at the University of Georgia, UGA head coach Joel McCartney announced Friday.
Callihan spent four years at the helm for the Mountaineers, having compiled an 88-45 (.662) overall record at the school. He led the team to two Southern Conference regular season titles, two SoCon tournament championship matches and a 56-13 (.812) league mark.
Callihan earned his 100th career win in 2006, a 3-1 victory over Idaho State on September 2 and touts a 120-76 (.612) career record in six seasons as a head coach.
In 2004, Callihan was named the SoCon Coach of the Year as he led the team to the North Division Championship and guided Stefanie Panzer to become ASU’s first volleyball all-American and second SoCon Player of the Year.
During his four seasons, Callihan saw 12 of his student-athletes earn all-conference honors and all four of his squads earn AVCA Academic Team Awards.
Prior to his arrival in Boone, Callihan spent the 2001 and ’02 seasons as the head coach at Radford University, compiling a 32-31 overall record. In 2001, his first year as head coach, he led RU to a 24-7 record and the Big South Conference regular-season championship.
Appalachian assistant coach Teri Fry is also leaving the program to pursue a career in education.
Earlier this spring, ASU assistant coach Chris Gaskill accepted the position of assistant volleyball coach at Illinois State University, where he will assume the role of recruiting coordinator and coach the middle blockers.
